In our backyard grows a tree that was once a branch of another tree. Years ago—quite a few now—I dipped the base of a short clipped-off live twig from an American elm in rooting solution, it took and I ended up planting the new tree in the yard about fifty feet from its non-seed source.
Does this cloned American elm have a spirit of its own, or is it part of what stands a few yards away?
I feel like Frankenstein now. But neither plant seems to mind, at least to my nominal animal-based sensibilities, even if the clone indeed now looks like a ten foot tall shrub because I have resisted doing any trimming on it.
On some Dead Files episodes, Amy Allan has spoken of people “residually haunting” a former residence—telling this to those still-living people themselves! To me that has staggering implications, as does the “simple” cloning of a backyard tree.
Seems like maybe we ARE those Hollow Moon aliens, experimenting with the DNA they used to make this biosphere…and ourselves, of course, in the process. But that’s just a side point, something I’ll cover when I get around to blogging on my very favorite paranormal subject, old Ringy up there.
This riff is about spirit. Souls. If they’re indeed individual and unique and indivisible, how does somebody accidentally spall off an apparently self-aware and from all indications independently thinking piece of themselves?
“What monsters do we leave in our wake?” I think I may start my Ghost Hunter novel with that line.
Ms. Allan has flat-out told “haunted” people that not only are they haunting themselves, they’ve created a separate intellect—or brought it in from somewhere—that continues to do its thing even if the person is aware/informed of it and makes conscious efforts to terminate or even merely tolerate this strange intangible “offspring”.
MAKE YOUR OWN SPIRIT ARMY—ASK ME HOW.
Couldn’t resist.
But seriously, using this concept of spiritual “cell division” or “soul cloning”, it is not hard to envision someone eventually mastering this skill rather than being its victim. And when that happens, well…gives a whole new perspective on the whole “I am Legion, for I am many” thing, doesn’t it?
That's a really good question! One I need to ponder....
